The Chief Medical Officer is in fact responsible for the coordination of the facilities’ healthcare procedures, acting as interface between the General Manager, the Operating Manager and the various Operating and Service Units, therefore performing Clinical Governance activities in compliance with the evolution of healthcare regulatory requirements occurred over the last decades, which has led to increasing the focus on management and administration issues.

However, the Chief Medical Officer’s institutional duties would not be such if they were not combined with specific field activities, including the delivery of fundamental independent services in addition to services providing support to Operating Units/Services, aiming to ensure that everyone is enabled to of effectively and efficiently work towards the achievement of their objectives.
In fact, on a daily basis, it is necessary to face individual peculiarities of the many environments and sectors of the facilities’ activities, building on project areas in synergy with healthcare needs and towards the continuous improvement of healthcare services, of the procedure’s efficiency, appropriateness and effectiveness.

Such activities include:
·         the goal of increasing the patients’ perceived level of quality
·         the technical and professional quality of healthcare operators
·         the quality of healthcare management systems based on an adequate level of operating flexibility

The Chief Medical Officer therefore combines hygiene-healthcare activities to legal, healthcare economics and legal medicine expertise.
