As regards the operating structure, the new Pole is based on the development and implementation of major technology platforms required to enable advanced biotechnology research capabilities in the diagnostic, therapeutic and drug development sectors, in the molecular and nanosciences sector.
It consists of a selected set of technologies and high level expertise uncommonly found at an international level and absolutely unique within Italy. 

The technical-organization structure comprises a common operating structure accessible by all Partners, consisting of nine enabling technology platforms, including:

• Ultra massive DNA sequencing platform for high speed DNA sequencing up to 40 million bases per day.  It is based on 454 technology, the first installation in Europe and second to the MIT implementation in Boston. With this technique Pole researchers have sequenced the genome of 9 million bases of the “Saccharopolyspora Eritrea” microorganism, producer of erythromycin
• Microarray platform for genotyping and gene expression studies
• Molecular modeling  platform to predict molecular properties and design chemical compounds
• Bioinformatics platform to manage large data bases and tools to interpret analytical data resulting from genomics, proteomics and transcriptomics related projects
• Combinatorial Chemistry platform and high throughput screening for new molecule synthesis and to define their high performance biological activity
• Proteomics and analytical Chemistry platform to extract information regarding the presence, structure and conformation of in solution molecules
• NAT - Nucleic Acid Testing  platform, fully automated and capable of analyzing large volumes of samples
• Biorepository  platform for low temperature storage of biologic samples A group of controlled atmosphere laboratories for biological matter storage and handling
• Clinical chemistry and Pathological anatomy  platform to analyze molecules of medical and biological interest
• Stem cell  research, production and storage platform (GMP, PL3 class controlled contamination laboratory)
