Conceptually unique: not pure restrictive, not malabsorbent: but it works!
- The small gastric pocket of 30 ml allows a modest introduction of food.
- Food “bypasses the stomach” and so the appetite hormone is reduced by feeding hunger.
- Food ingested in the ileal loop gives a sense of satiety.
So you eat less and less frequently.
The procedure is performed under general anaesthesia with video laparoscopic technique or, possibly, by laparotomical technique.
The patient is discharged on 3/4 day after surgery.
It is essential to follow the advice and rules for re-nutrition in the first month; then a normal, free diet, except for sugars with the need to supplement mineral salts and vitamins for some time or cycles.
