The COVID-19 pandemic dominates the Italian health context and beyond. The data emerging from the scientific literature available so far have highlighted the possibility of cardiac manifestations of SARS-CoV-2 disease (COVID-19) and a possible increase in both the risk of developing severe forms of disease and the risk of death in subjects with pre-existing heart disease developing COVID-19.
There is also evidence of possible adverse effects of certain pharmacological therapies widely used in cardiology in patients with COVID-19, in relation to antiviral treatments.
Hospital needs in the management of patients with COVID-19 are requiring the acquisition of expertise from other disciplines as well as the modulation of organizational protocols and management of cardiological pathologies and interventions for cardiologists.
The “COVID a Cuore” project aims to focus on the elements useful to understand the relationship between COVID-19 and related cardiovascular problems.
To achieve this goal, a web portal, active for 6 months, has been created on the initiative of IRCCS MultiMedica, which will collect and update the scientific literature on the relationship between COVID-19 and cardiovascular diseases.
The space can be reached through the link https://www.covidecuore.it/. This space will help to provide a guide to ensure the most effective and safe management for patients and healthcare professionals during the COVID-19 pandemic.
