Prof. Luigi Rossi Bernardi
Graduated in Medicine and Surgery from the State University of Milan in 1958, he carried out his research activities at prestigious international research institutes in the USA (NIH, Rand Corporation, participating in the Apollo project), England (Colloid Science Dept., University of Cambridge) and Holland (University of Nijmegen). He obtained his PhD in Cambridge (England) in 1964. in Biophysical Chemistry Full Professor of Biochemistry at the State University of Milan.
President from 1984 to 1993 of the National Research Council, of which he was also President of the National Committee for Medical and Biological Sciences.
Director of the Technical Secretariat of the Ministry of Education, University, Research from 2000 to 2003. Head of the University-Research Department of Miur. A great Official for Merit of the Italian Republic, in 2011 he was awarded the Gold Medal of Italian Healthcare.
He is the author of 137 scientific publications in major international newspapers, highlighting the combination of hemoglobin and carbon dioxide, the Bohr effect and the interaction between oxygen, carbon dioxide, diphosphoglycerates in the transport of respiratory gases in the blood.
With regard specifically to aspects of his curriculum related to the health sector, he has been scientific director of S. Raffaele for 7 years, director of the Policlinico di Milano, President of the III section of the National Health Council and has coordinated the working groups that have prepared the first National Health Plan and the first National Plan of Scientific and Technological Research.
